The Big One……….Chapter 78

Fred Casper sat at his desk constantly trying to find a way to capture this bastard space worm he had released into nature thus cursing his own life. Vooch had been  more than a pain in the ass and Casper  was making it his number one priority to recapture him. Turning his head away from the screen to let out a sneeze, Casper could not believe his eyes when they focused once again. Vooch was the only known creature with ability to make himself invisible to Casper’s Special New Signal Directive console yet here he was on the screen laid out on what appeared to be a plateau not far from the valley, actually right next to Gorbel’s fortress mountain. Fred was so excited that his hands trembled as he instructed a number of his six legged creatures to meet him near the back door of the farm house. Grabbing his jacket he then ran out side to meet them wondering all the while what had suddenly made Vooch visible.

There was a very good reason as to why this ancient space worm was now detectable to Fred Casper’s console. Vooch had a very complicated and powerful biological make up. There was no creature in over a thousand solar systems that had anything close to what his kind possessed. Although he was able to make himself invisible to any system, he was capable of being influenced by certain substances that would weaken his system thus making him more vulnerable. Vooch had paid a visit to that old brewery and upon burrowing through the bottom of a large vessel filled with beer had ingested huge amounts of the substance. He had an intestinal track that could handle some very nasty things but had never drank alcohol before let alone been drunk. Both of these things happened instantly leaving the poor creature wondering what had hit him. His head felt very fuzzy and thoughts of paying folks a very jolly visit passed through his mind. He suddenly wished he was back on his home planet so he could chase a few females of his own kind around. He also felt very giddy and brave beyond all reality with a bad case of the munchies. Trying now to move about he smacked face first into a tree falling over and laying there feeling the whole situation to suddenly be very funny. In fact pretty much everything seemed funny right about now. That was when his foggy gaze fell upon Casper. The creatures with him were moving backwards wanting nothing to do with Vooch. This did not bother Vooch  as he felt it no problem to pretty much kick the crap out of the whole galaxy right now. Or maybe he would treat them to more of the awesome liquid he had just drank. He had no clue what it was but felt rather thirsty for more.

There were many things Fred Casper did not know about Vooch . One such thing was that his internal substance was very potent and when he let out any sort of gas or air which he rarely did, anyone within about twenty feet would be totally intoxicated by it. This is why when Vooch raised his head and in his drunken state let out a huge belch Fred Casper was not only thrown backwards onto the ground but heavily intoxicated by the alcohol in the space worms system. All he could do was lay there trying to rise from time to time ,slurring all words he tried to pronounce. He finally managed to shout out a loud proclamation as Vooch  dove beneath the earth to start creating a sink hole bellow Gorbel’s fortress.

“VOOCH you over grown pain in the ass space maggot.”

The six legged creatures literally had to drag Casper back to the farm house.

The Big One……Chapter 77

Kevin Cross was a very tender plant when it came to matters of emotion brought on by situations of great stress. This is why both he and the love of his life Amber Gershwin were feeling so badly of late. It had been these two that had been taking care of young Emily when she had gone missing. Following an extended period of searching for the girl they had grown tired and despondent returning home for a rest and to discuss what to do next. Sitting in the barn area chatting with Rem Josephus seemed to make Kevin feel better for now and so Amber went off to the house to rest and make something to eat for everyone. She casually noticed Fred Casper heading out the back door to walk towards the valley rim with an escort of those disgusting creatures. It was not until some time later when she heard the panicked shouts of Abe and Anna that she knew something had happened. The two came bolting through the back door into the kitchen talking loudly about Casper being drunk and a large space worm that let out a large toxic burp. These things did not make much sense at the out set. Giving the happenings in the last couple of weeks however , everyone was smart enough to know that a little time was all one needed to bring about perfect understanding of brand new things.

Meanwhile out on yonder plateau where mister Casper lay extremely inebriated, there was a new development as Vooch plunged deep into the earth to create the largest sink hole he had ever done. One the would be some one thousand feet deep below the earths surface and when it was done would totally  swallow Gorbel’s fortress mountain.

The Big One………..Chapter 76

Abe Yoder and Anna were in deep sorrow following the disappearance of their sweet little adopted daughter Emily. There was no desire to either sleep or eat and they never stopped searching for the little girl or calling her name. There was no concern for their own safety because the only desire was to see little Emily again and hold her close. It was as they headed for the outer rim of the valley that Fred Casper came into site accompanied by those ugly creatures. The two said nothing to one another but simply kept their distance while following him out of the valley. It was not until climbing the opposite slope and coming to a large plateau that they saw what Casper was after. Laying on the ground was what appeared to be that huge worm the two had seen some time ago at the gold mine. The six legged creatures stopped and refused to go any closer not wanting anything to do with this worm. Fred Casper was the only one to go near and that was when the worm like creature raised it’s head letting out the loudest belch like sound that sent the scientist backwards onto the ground. Casper lay there for a while and then began to make an attempt to rise and could not. He seemed to thrash around like a drunk and his attempts to speak were slurred.

“My God said Abe, is he drunk”?

The Big One Chapter….75

Dave Rippley knew now more than ever what he must do very soon. After little Emily had been taken there had been a an outburst of emotion on the valley farm that had sent search parties far and wide coming up with nothing. There was no foot prints to be found or articles of clothing. Dave had participated in this endeavor but had known all along that the very person responsible for this evil was likely crouched over his console in the farm house basement planning his next move. Anson Gorbel was a militant tyrant but this scientist had become very powerful with this space technology and was now slowly taking control of their lives and likely the entire world. This would occur once he had disposed of Gorbel but maybe the two would join forces. The youngster felt confident that he would get a chance to take Casper out but would likely have to wait until Anson and his band of agents had been killed or neutralised some how. Leaning against the barn door Dave felt in his coat pocket for the fifty seven magnum with two extra clips of bullets. He kept these for any danger that may arise including the chance he may get some day to take out mister Casper. Rippley listened now to a conversation between Rem Josephus and Kevin Cross about trying to find little Emily and the sound of an explosion that had happened a couple of days back. Abe and Anna had also had a stand off with two of Casper’s creatures and everyone was feeling very boxed in now by these space beasts.

There was a creaking noise as the back porch door of the farm house opened and Fred Casper came bounding out to head up the ridge. Rippley thought this may be a good time to follow and take out the scientist but two things stopped him dead in his tracks. One was the thought that Anson Gorbel must first be stopped. The second was that Casper had an escort of five six legged creatures about him. This was now another factor to consider, Fred Casper knew he was no longer safe on the valley farm hence a chance to take him out could be much harder than young Rippley ever imagined.

The Big One Chapter…..74

Anson Gorbel felt like a kid in a candy store for a number of reasons. First was that he had his scientists hunting for biological clues regarding that huge space worm that had stopped him from killing his nephew Tyler. The second element to his giddy happiness was that on this very day they would attack the valley settlement that contained some fifteen hundred people and wipe them out. This would leave their female leader who probably knew about that scientist Fred Casper on the valley farm and she would have no choice but to spill it.

Vooch was very bored but felt for some reason that he must watch Tyler Gorbel who seemed to have settled in nicely. His friend Tristin had gone down to the village bucket in hand and was about to come back up. Vooch saw many things with his third eye and that was what saved young Tyler in the nick of time. The space worm saw the missile and drone all at once and shot under ground in a blur of speed snatching young Tyler who stood near the cabin door shouting to his friend who had just began to ascend the hill. Vooch caught the youngster by his leg dragging him off quickly into the bushes away from the cabin where he lived and town that would soon be gone. The lad was in utter shock and simply thrashed about as the creature dragged him along but soon began to scream and shout in alarm. Vooch barley had the boy into the thick brush when there was a loud swooshing noise followed by a heavy explosion that shock the entire mountain obliterating the valley settlement.

The village leader Belinda Grace was the only one home in her cabin above the valley settlement when the missile struck. She was hurled across the kitchen against the opposite wall and lay there stunned after impact. Her first concern was for her son Tristan who had gone down to the village for some cooking supplies. She also worried about her new adopted son Tyler who was near by running an errand. Struggling to her feet she stumbled to the door trying to clear away the persistent ringing noise that trauma can bring to ones ears. Upon opening the door she could hear approaching helicopters but one look down the trail made her freeze in horror. Dragging himself along with both hands was her son Tristan  his legs blown off and hair matted in debris, blood poring from what remained of two ears. Belinda trembled in disbelief clasping hands over her mouth wanting try cry out in unbelievable inner agony. Gorbel and four of his operatives came up through the smoky trail behind her son’s sprawled body and she had never seen such evil eyes like those of Anson Gorbel’s. He simply looked at Tristan’s sprawled bloody body and spoke casually as if appraising a ball game that had just ended.

“So this nice little hamlet in the mountains comes to an end in one terrible day no?! I mean there really seems to be nothing left down below and this son of yours seems about ready to cash in his chips at any moment”.

Anson was a veteran of many armed conflicts and was a master of psychology who could read people very well. That is why it only toke one look into the eyes of this wonderful yet heart broken woman to see that she would never help him no matter what he did. That dark and sadistic rage boiled up inside Gorbel while he pulled his gun walking casually over to Tristan.

“Well I hope since your off spring is about to cash in his chips that he is square with the house”!

Anson’s gun roared and young Tristan’s body lay lifeless. Belinda gasped in unbelievable agony and turned away seemly caught up in a sweet melody that her grand mother used to sing. It brought a wonderful and sudden blanket of peace over her soul that embraced her from the cruel agony of her situation helping her rise above. She too hummed that melody fully embracing it until Gorbel’s next bullet toke her life as well and she was once again with Tristan and her loved ones.

Vooch saw all of this and was having a time of his own with Tyler who lay there in the coils of this space worm crying. The creature watched this in utter awe for he had never beheld something so lovely. There was a wonderful soul of beauty in this young human that touched him to his very core. Vooch had a life span expectancy of about fifteen hundred human years. He was now about four hundred and fifty years of age and had lived in two different galaxies. The planet he had come from had three suns and seven moons. There were nights when earth would be in line with his home galaxy and he could look towards his home dreaming of days gone past. He knew that some day soon the ships would find their lost technology and come reclaim it. He however upon beholding the beauty and soul that could exist in humanity, more importantly this boy had decided to stay on planet earth.

Looking down now at Tyler he was met by the tear filled gaze of this youngster who raised his hand to touch Vooch’s head while he spoke in a heart broken voice.

“I want to thank you for saving me twice now because there is no doubt in my heart that I would be dead if it wasn’t for you”.

Vooch felt a warmth in his heart for this boy he had never experienced in his whole life. Lifting the lad to his feet he toke him back to the cabin that was still intact following the explosion. Gorbel and his agents had searched the cabin and were now long gone. The creature helped Tyler bury his two friends and stayed with him for a day or so. Vooch was aware of what Casper had done in the other valley and so taking the lad to the valley farm would be out of the question for now. He would first go visit that brewery he had wanted to explore for some time and then deal with that evil Gorbel. After that he would see to  Casper who was now showing a mentality similar to that of Gorbel. All these things would be seen to with full retribution very shortly.
