The Big One……………………….Chapter 60

They were creatures of old from literally another galaxy, lite years from this planet that had been brought to earth in containment units aboard the ships that had crashed in New Mexico.  They now found themselves subject to the console controls of one Fred Casper and had been instructed to patrol the hillside near the outer rim of the valley. Their skin was able to change making them blend in to any surroundings thus making them hard to detect. They could run on all six legs at very high speed or simply two hind legs when needed. There were close to a thousand of them but only a couple hundred had been dispatched by Casper so far. They were about the size of a large bear and had razor sharp claws on each foot about nine inches long that shot highly toxic slime into a victim when scratched. This hideous substance would enter the victim’s system causing immediate illness until they eventually exploded. The mouths on these creatures did not seem like much until they opened them exposing a full set in three layers deep of razor sharp teeth, each about four inches long. The tongues in these beasts were horrific to behold indeed with a very sharp spear like end that could shoot out over six metres, wrapping around a victim to pull them into that terrible mouth.

The morning was cool with fall coming on but Dave Rippley had much on his mind and felt it comforting to take a walk. So much had happened with the funeral of his friend and then there was Kevin Cross and his girlfriend who had gone for a walk and come back claiming that the farm was invisible from the rim of the valley where it was normally in full view. No one had really thought much of this news but Dave knew in the back of his mind that Mister Casper and his magical bag of space tricks probably had something to do with it. Being the only one in the valley who knew about Casper’s technology he had seen some of these things that would make a persons blood run cold. Dave was not far from the rim of the valley when he noticed the birds were no longer singing in fact there did not even seem to be any insect activity. There was a sudden noise in the grass nearby that made him freeze. It sounded like some sort of mutant reptile or dinosaur from a sci fi movie. There it was again to his left and then to the right and suddenly behind him. It was like his eyes had been blind and opened to see for the first time for all around him stood the most hideous six legged creatures with about seven reptile like eyes in their heads. The youngster froze, with blood pounding in his ears and heart about to burst in his bosom. One of them suddenly stepped closer turning its head to the side as if to get a better look while rising on two back legs with big ugly face not even three feet from Dave’s. Rippley felt very helpless like a meal about to be consumed to be exact and closed his eyes tight preparing for the worst. He then heard a large and loud reptilian croak that sounded like some sort of order and opening his eyes found himself alone once more.

The Big One…………………….Chapter 59

Anson Gorbel had suffered major set backs this past week but was not the type to simply quit. This superior technology used by the scientist on that farm in the next valley was literally out of this world but no one was unbeatable and so this was why Gorbel was ready to set his new plan in motion. Sitting back in his chair inside the darkened office he turned over this situation with that very evil mind. Three drones would fly over the valley farm at a very high altitude launching new state of the art missiles at his command. Devastation would soon follow and that is when personal helicopters would swoop in securing the area. His nephew Tyler who had become bored thus much more annoying of late was given the task of messenger about the mountain fortress and would come to fetch Anson when full surveillance had been locked upon the location in order for the operation to begin.  There was a new feeling of confidence about Gorbel and he felt it fitting to mark this occasion in advance with one of his nice cigars. Snatching a Cuban from the desk drawer and placing it between his lips, he had just put a flame to it when the office door slammed open. Flying backwards in his chair with lighter going one way and cigar falling to the desk top, young Tyler Gorbel ran in his face flushed with worry.

“Uncs we got a problem you need to come quick”.

Wrestling deep dark waves of annoyance and shock Gorbel sat in his chair against the wall head down wondering deeply how he had killed so many through the years and not this youngster. If that Rippley kid had remained in custody he would certainly be dead by now but this nephew of his Tyler certainly could not possibly know how close he was to his biological end at times. Pulling his emotions into check as best he could Anson moved at lightning speed, seizing his young relative by the arm bringing his deep dark and wicked gaze even with the lads eyes.

” Further to what we have discussed about your training as an agent and what I expect of you! We have lost count I am sure of how many times you have been told to knock upon entering my office! If you wish to continue as a part of my organisation you will keep the decorum that has been laid out for you to abide by, for the last time is that UNDERSTOOD?! And for the love of god STOP CALLING ME UNCS”!

Staring blankly into the black holes of his uncles eyes young Tyler answered as if nothing had just happened, “Uh ya sure but you really need to come to the control room right now”.

Anson seemed to suddenly notice the urgency in his nephews voice and followed him quickly to the control room to find his operators in a fevered uproar of panic. Donna Anders his head surveillance operator inside the fortress ran over to him a look of concern and confusion on her face.

” Sir we have everything in place except for the location we will be striking. It seems the valley farm has seemed to some how disappeared”.

Turning to look at the large situation screen a feeling of bewilderment washed over him. For right where the farm had been so many times when they had spied on it, the place just simply seemed to be gone. Anger began to well up inside him with it’s usual hateful brew. He knew who would be behind such a slick trick and his name came to his lips with the normal bitter contempt.

“CASPER!  What have you done now”?!

The Big One……………….Chapter 58

Fred Casper felt very sad after the funeral of Bill Langley for he had always felt that Bill was much the same as himself when it came to intellect. Fred had stayed in his basement hide away much of the time but was planning to involve Langley in matters of leadership in days to come. Langley had been an excellent pilot and so Fred had not hesitated to lend his air craft to him and his amish friend for their recent trip to Diego Island. Bill had been one of only a couple of folks who tried to befriend Casper but was rejected due to the secrets Fred felt must be protected. Laying on his bed in the farm house basement Casper could not help but smile for this technology could watch many things including all goings on in the mountain fortress of Anson Gorbel be it human or other wise. Shortly before the funeral Casper had discovered surveillance signals from the mountain fortress being directed upon this valley farm and so he had activated yet another piece of technology, a cloaking device that rendered the entire farm invisible. This would be not only to a naked eye but any form of surveillance. Drifting off to sleep there were two thoughts crossing Fred’s mind, one was regret that he had not been more friendly to Bill Langley. The second was more of a curiosity, for if beings from another planet had brought this very powerful and unearthly technology to earth and had lost it. Would they not seek it out someday to reclaim what was rightfully theirs? Perhaps………sometime………soon.

The Big One………………..Chapter 57

Kevin Cross was a rather tender flower of late given all of the crazy things he had been through and now came the death of his friend Bill Langley. His lovely girlfriend Amber Gershwin could see this and so she held his hand through the entire funeral service at grave side and following the ceremony she had a great idea to cheer him up. The two waited until no one was looking and then slipped away for a nice walk to the upper rim of the valley. Amber had packed a nice lunch basket and off they went through the trees on this overcast day that was still fairly warm for late summer. The leaves on the trees were changing color rather quickly now but birds still sang and flew about and one would never think that anything could possibly be out of the ordinary. It toke the two about an hour and a half to reach the valley’s edge where they could look down on the vast valley and farm. The view seemed extra wonderful with a warm breeze blowing through the grass. After laying a blanket out they set about having lunch and chatted casually about many things. Amber was relieved  that Kevin’s mind seemed rather at ease and she lay back closing her eyes for a quick nap. The two had not really noticed any change in the valley scenery and Amber’s first inclination of anything different was a gasp from Kevin. Opening her eyes the young lady saw her boyfriend standing lips trembling his face riveted in shock as he starred down at the valley . Following his gaze she too froze in utter amazement for the valley scenery was missing one key element, the entire farm.

Unable to contain himself any further young Cross blurted out at the top of his lungs, “AH WHAT THE HELL MAN! WHERE IS THE FARM?!”.
