Dave Rippley had experienced very hard things for such a young man and learned some facts that he almost wished he had not. While in the mountain fortress he had learned from the evil Anson Gorbel that Fred Casper had many deadly weapons unknown to humanity that were capable of exploits out of this world. The lad had just come from the farm house basement following a passionate and lively conversation with the scientist where they had discussed Dave’s experience and findings, coming to an agreement to keep his newly gained knowledge a secret for now. Sitting at the kitchen table while everyone else was outside shouting about a swarm of butterflies that had just gone past, he felt oddly alone with his newly acquired knowledge but felt it was best to keep it from the others for the greater good. There was a cold and nagging feeling in the depths of his mind that Casper should not have this technology and that a person with such great power would be very lethal should they decide to commit evil acts. Fred had always been private yet kind to everyone but his behaviour had been different of late. Casper had shown the youngster some of the weapons during their talk and it was enough to make his blood run cold. The human race seemed to be their own worst enemy in far too many cases. There was a shout as the sound of an approaching helicopter brought the people outside to a buzz of excitement welcoming Bill, Abe and the beautiful Anna Colbenze home. He tried to push the dark thoughts of worry about Fred Casper out of his mind while getting to his feet and heading outside. One thing he knew for sure was that he or perhaps some one else would have to make another decision about Mister Casper some day for the greater good of all humanity.
Anson Gorbel was very perplexed and frustrated since three members of his team had been killed by one of Fred Caspers creatures in the hallway inside his very own mountain fortress. So now here he was on Diego Island and two people from that valley farm had just snatched a young girl away from right under his nose as it were and was headed back towards that valley farm. Since his Russian torture expert Egor Vrolev was annoying him so much Gorbel saw his opportunity to get him out of his hair for the moment and ordered two helicopters to pursue with orders to shoot it down if necessary while instructing Vrolev to go along and over see the operation. Gorbel still had three craft complete with teams left on the ground to take over and secure key areas of the island and figured it should not take too long. The islands main communications centre was now in the hands of his agents and there was an operative monitoring what was going on in the two pursuing helicopters on a situation screen. There was not much to see as they raced along through the air rapidly gaining on the air craft carrying Abe, Bill and the young Anna Colbenze. Egor Vrolev seemed happy to be along as he joked and laughed loudly with the pilot. The other craft was quiet as most of it occupants napped or simply listened to music on head sets. This was all the operative in the communications centre could see and so she grew curious when the occupants of the second craft became unsettled in their seats talking loudly about some approaching wall of stained glass flying things. The talk quickly grew into panicked shouts and screams until there was a massive lurch in the picture and the screen displaying the inside of the craft went to static and then blank. The occupants of the other craft were shouting in alarm and staring towards the second craft. The operative could easily hear them talking about how the second craft had been attacked by a swarm of something that had just blown it out of the air. Grabbing her radio the operative called for Anson Gorbel
and he arrived at her work station just in time to see Vrolev point out the front window of his aircraft and scream as a mass of some thick dark substance splattered all over the helicopter plunging it into darkness. This did not last long as the front window seemed to melt sending the whole place into chaos. What happened next left both Gorbel and his operative in deep and silent awe as it seemed some sort of super archers let go with arrows of about two feet long shooting them into every person in the air craft. They did not get to see what happened next because the helicopter then turned nose down and plummeted to the earth leaving both screens blank. The whole communications room was left silent for two or three minutes until Gorbel broke it with a deflated sigh and exclamation.
“Son of a bitch”.
